SOLVING CARDINALITY CONSTRAINED PORTFOLIO OPTIMIZATION PROBLEM BY BINARY PARTICLE SWARM OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

Aleš Kresta

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):24-33 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.043

Mathematical programming methods dominate in the portfolio optimization problems, but they cannot be used if we introduce a constraint limiting the number of different assets included in the portfolio. To solve this model some of the heuristics methods (such as genetic algorithm, neural networks and particle swarm optimization algorithm) must be used. In this paper we utilize binary particle swarm optimization algorithm and quadratic programming method to find an efficient frontier in portfolio optimization problem. Two datasets are utilized. First dataset consists of the stocks incorporated in the Dow Jones Industrial Average, second dataset contains...

MOŽNOSTI MERANIA PRODUKTIVITY PRÁCE VO VÝROBNOM PROCESE A VPLYV PRESTOJOV NA PRODUKTIVITU PRÁCE

Peter Malega, Nikoleta Puchá

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):34-42 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.044

Labour productivity is one of the main indicators of continuous performance improvement and it is the assumption of successful corporate objectives implementation. Labour productivity is expressed as an effectively studied entity respectively a part of this entity transforms inputs into outputs. Each measurement of productivity in the corporate sector talks about how to flashback inputs into outputs and must be oriented to meet customer demand. Stoppages reduce productivity, because the duration of stoppage is very closely related to time. In the "battle" with productivity the time factor plays a very important role, decrease in productivity is clearly...

Jan Nevima, Lukáš Melecký

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):43-57 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.045

The paper examines and analyzes the process of real convergence in the Visegrad countries at regional level NUTS 2. Theoretical background of the paper defines the methodological concept and definition of convergence, focusing on the concept of beta convergence, which is the case of unconditional (absolute) convergence. This approach is based on the neoclassical growth model. The empirical part of the article focuses on the analysis of beta convergence in NUTS 2 regions of the Visegrad Four countries in the reference period 1995 - 2006. Beta convergence is analyzed by nonlinear regression econometric model, which is formulated in two variations based...

Eva Rievajová, Zuzana Poláčiková

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):91-102 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.049

This paper deals with theoretical approaches to the harmonization of family life and work based on the Esping-Andersen's typology of the welfare state. In the first chapter we characterize three basic types of the welfare state: liberal, conservative-corporatist and social democratic. We focus on the essential features, on the relationship between the state and the market, the level of stratification and decommodification in these different types. In the second chapter we analyze familiarization of the welfare state typology, refering to the criticism, which calls into questioning the ability of commodification by which Orloff underestimates this ability...

In its essence, the article deals with the draft of a sub-concept of the system of benefit remuneration of employees based on the principles of cafeteria system. The concept was created on the basis of research done in a particular manufacturing company and it is based on individual specific benefit blocks. Each of them then reflects a certain degree of employee attitude to the work process and his/her approach to other defined parameters. The concept also refers to the attitude of the employer to the...

During the past three years, we have our research concluded that the assessment of regional disparities, we can use two basic approaches. One possibility is the disparities present in a material respect, which is our proposed integrated indicators, which we addressed for example in the essay...

DETERMINANTS AND THEIR USE IN ECONOMICS

Eva Valentová

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):150-157 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.054

The Cramer's rule provides a method of solving a system of linear equations through the use of determinants. The Hessian can be used for a test whether a given critical point is a local minimum or maximum of a function of two or more real variables. In the article the use of the Cramer's rule and the Hessian is demonstrated on economic optimization problems.

QUANTITY INDICATORS AS A MEASURE OF CREDIT MARKET INTEGRATION IN THE VISEGRAD COUNTRIES

Pavla Vodová

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):158-165 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.055

The aim of this paper is to assess with quantity indicators the extent to which credit markets in the Visegrad countries are integrated with euro zone countries. According to the role of foreign branches of credit institutions and the share of cross-border loans, integration of credit markets in the Visegrad countries is increasing. However, financial crisis has slowed the integration a bit. Especially during the crisis, information about creditworthiness of counterparties is highly important. Banks prefer to provide loans to domestic borrowers because better information is available about domestic counterparties.

Denisa Vrebová, Markéta Jarotková

Acta academica karviniensia 2011, 11(3):166-177 | DOI: 10.25142/aak.2011.056

Risk can be understood as a lack of knowledge about future situations. In the case that is studied in this paper, it concerns the future price of a natural gas. This risk can be hedged by a broad family of strategies. In the paper we study and compare only the most standard strategies on the basis of a simulation study. Within the comparison we use the basic characteristics of probability distribution of the hedging effect and the quantiles of both tails. According to theoretical expectations, the risk is minimal for a covered position, whilst the barrier option means both the highest mean value and risk in sense of the standard deviation.

One of the significant consequences of the globalization processes is the sharpening of the competitive environment and the sharpening of the subsequent pressure on the business efficiency. Beside the traditional indicators, in the last years the accent is putted on the modern firm performance indicators based on the theory of the shareholder value. The palette of the firm financial performance indicators is therefore relatively broad, what is the reason why the financial analytics stay in front of the problem to choose the set of indicators which would reflect the firm financial performance most precise. Some of the indicators are in the significant...
