The article deals with a theory of adaptability. The article aims to create the concept of an adaptive organization by system thinking. It indicates a low adaptability of organizations in the global competitive market and reveals generic structure of survival. A key element of organizational survival is adaptability, which means the ability to learn. Organizations can adapt only provided that they will develop and maintain a need of exploration and change, and they will eliminate defensive routine. The adaptive organization has a high threshold of perception and consciousness, which means that the existing sensory systems in the organizations must be changed. These systems have to leave the limits of financial accounting, stop to concentrate on the past and focus on the information needed to create the future. Adaptive model is formed by a theory of the business, organizational improvement and development of external corporate culture. Practices and techniques that are a part of the adaptive model lead to systematic analyses of organizational identity, a core of the competences and market opportunities which are essential precondition for development and creation of the immune system of organization.
